23:0834728It's coming. Internet tax. It's a bloody con.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8403273.stm
Okay so it may only be £6 a year now, but wasn't road tax really cheap once? And the TV licence? And who the hell do this messed up government think they are? In the light of today's further revelations about MPs expenses, amounting to some £10million this year alone and including such things as bell towers and garlic choppers, maybe they can all go **** themselves this time. I'm beside myself with rage. In this climate they have the bare faced cheek to charge us YET ANOTHER TAX for something that simply should not be taxed in this way.
Only £6 a year now, but in less than 10 years I'd be willing to bet the Broadband tax or whatever they call it will be over £100 a year. You watch. We are, as a nation, once again all bending over and allowing our political masters to shaft us rotten.

23:1234729rick. you are worrying without good reason. the blues will be in power soon and all such things will be revoked.
actually, i do not follow your logic on this one, the broadband tax is only until everyone is up and running, cannot be that long. the tv licence is annual because bbc is permanently operating.

23:2634733I don't believe that for one second Howard. Once the government get cosy with that revenue coming in, do you really think they'll end it? You gotta be kidding!

08:0934748Yes, I trust those cosy cuddly honest as the day is long and twice as sunny politicians with my money and my future. Don't you?

08:1334749I wouldn't trust the Government to stick a stamp on an envelope.
Rick is right that once an income stream is set up and running, they'll keep it going, only increase the costs - year on year.
Every one is promoted to get online, then every one can be taxed - £6.00 from every one is a lot of money.

08:1834750To be fair, I think RICK was stating he doesn't trust ANY government Blue, Red, Yellow or whatever.

08:4334755No I dont think this is political as such but to use that old political chestnut..."its the thin end of the wedge!". Once this tax situation is set up in a Budget, Im afraid it will be with us for good. The TV licence was a Tenner once so watch this one grow and grow. Its a nasty little tax. The Pre-Budget the other day was just a starter in the tax war. As soon as the next Election is over there will be a further emergency budget where we will all be clobbered further generally.
We are already a very highly taxed nation.
But Rick used the term Rip-Off BRitain. I will give you a personal example of this that I came across yesterday. I remember years ago on here we used to talk of the difference in prices between here and the USA..we spoke of Reeboks and ..well everything. Huge differences even on ordinary items.
Honda are bringing out a brand spanking newly designed motorcycle that is sure to catch the eye and be very popular. I looked it up yesterday. Its £9055 in the USA and its £11,500 in the UK. Thats roughly the numbers off the top of my head but the £9 and £11,000 figures are correct. Why on earth this massive difference for the same thing. Its made in Japan. The sell it to us Brits for £2,500 more ..as major manufacturers do on lots of goods. Soft touch Britain. We just take this shafting and we pay up everytime.
But yes back to the Broadband tax..it will be a huge earner and the government, no matter what hue is in power, will grab this one with both hands. Depressing.

23:1734778Simple solution: Get rid of your fixed landline! Most of us have mobile phones these days that probably provide a better service than the landline anyway.

20:4834823It's pretty absurd. With the introduction of ipv6 we'll probably all end up getting our own personal IP addresses like phone numbers and taxed based on that IP address, so wired or not they'll still have you!

22:1734824I`ve said for years. If humans could eat grass, you`d be taxed on how many sq feet of lawn you`ve got.

23:3534827Colin, check your waste water bill! I think there's a calculation regarding the amopunt of land drained. Even worse than the amount of grass you have!!!

20:3834845WONDER HOW politicians will manage to this one round, they have lost the faith of the population in the UK and don't look like they doing much to re engage.
I think will see the voter apathy increase even more at the next election.

23:3234857That's the biggest fear Keith; voter apathy. The popularity of politicians of all flavours must be at an all-time low let alone any of their policies. Politics and politicians need a damned good shake up but it won't be worth a light if everybody stays at home and just watches this once great nation slip down the pan.
