Dear Howard I have just had swale heating out to do the yearly inspection and have had to shut down the whole system until Monday which is the first time they can fix it this will be the 7th time i have had to have new parts fitted to the boiler so i shall be without heating until Monday. I contracted the council who don't want to know they gave me a phone number to call which is superposed to be open till 5.30 and it tells me i have reached there out of office hours number and to leave my name and address and the council pay these people to deal with complaints from the public.East Kent housing are no better as i suffer from hart problems and diabetes this is no good to me why do we have so many departments within the council just to keep passing people around instead of getting the problem fixed in the first place.I wonder how many other swale heating customers are having the same problem.

This seems OTT Alan. If they could not have kept that appointment, would you have been in any real danger?
I don't know who you could call that would be knowledgeable enough, and senior enough, to advise you to switch the heating back on, but unless there was 'a clear and present danger', I would rather switch on than anything else.

all seems unacceptable - 4 days is not good enough, even brutish gas ask if someone is unwell in the house when deciding who takes precedence.
if alan gives permission i would be happy to copy this thread to "east kent housing".

So would I Howard; it's totally unacceptable. There must be a priority list and I would have thought that Alan would fit that O.K.

Things were simpler and easier to cope with when we didn't have central heating, once there is a fault the whole of the heating goes off !

Keeping warm in Winter is not just about 'setting fire' to a large part of your wage or pension, and keeping warm and staying healthy - in body and bank-balance, should be an all year round issue.
Something is being done somewhere, not much of a something and not country-wide either. The article linked to below gives some idea of what could and should be done on a much larger scale.
The people involved lay great store by the Green Levy, it is one source of funding open to them, and the use they put this tax+ money is a great step up from garish light bulbs.
One day soon, who knows, Councils will be able to begin building homes again. They MUST build smart...

That article you posted Tom about passivhouses was truly appalling. This paragraph caught my eye:
"Britain can now build really low-energy houses massively cheaper than it could just a few years ago. But it's frustrating because the government has rolled back the building standards. If the green levy is dropped, then thousands of people in Oldham and elsewhere will stay cold and ill and it will cost the NHS dearly," says Banks".
Oh! boo hoo those poor, huddled masses with their mouths wide open expecting the next handout to keep them going paid for by the rest of us.
And then there is the next paragraph which is even sillier:
"One mile away in Fitton Hill, Oldham council, a large housing group and Oldham NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are investing £200,000 between them to retro-fit 1,000 cold homes with new boilers and exterior insulation. The health service calculates it will save £300,000 a year in reduced hospital admissions and social costs, and the council hopes each household will save around £450 a year. Each home also draws on energy company green levy money".
Who makes up all this nonsense? More to the point, who profits from it?

I am no big fan of the green-levy, it being little better than vat - hitting the least well off hardest. But what is 'nonsense' about helping reduce sickness generally Philip?
Why is it OK to demand employees work to a zero-hours contract, like free-lance prostitutes in a back street brothel, but not all right to extract more bang-for-your-buck from your energy expenditure?
Who is it that profits from houses heating the wind?
