I have had many emails since the move and all have been positive one's. The one below sum's up exactly why we wanted to move this Statue.
Hi there Gary.
Just a quick email to say how pleased I was to have finally seen the Kent Miners Statue having been moved to its new site at the entrance of Fowlmead Park. I had originally noticed the statue having been moved while driving home from work on the Thursday evening, but have been so busy that I haven't been in touch with you sooner. I think it looks absolutely fantastic and glad that all that long hard work that you and your colleagues have pushed for the past few years and finally paid off and with a great result. Everyone that I've recently spoken to regarding the Miners Statue have all said how good it looks and are pleased that it has at last been placed somewhere that it can be left and now have a true meaning for what it represents.
I also read the article in the Kent Messenger paper this week regarding the Miners Statue and read with a lot of interest that you are trying to also produce a list of all the miners who unfortunately passed away during their work in connection with the Kent Collieries. I think that this would be a great lasting monument to celebrate the struggles of all the miners and their families over the many years that the Kent Collieries existed. Because of this I do now feel that on each occasion I pass by the Miners Statue I do get a lump in my throat and instantly think by to all my late relatives who spent many hard working years down the mines.
Once again good work done to you all with the great result from the 'Move the Miner Campaign' and I look forward to finally meeting you in a few weeks at the Kent Miners Festival.
Regards,
Colin Varrall.
