07:2129156HAVE YOUR SAY AT NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUMS
Local residents are invited to come along and have their say at the latest round of Neighbourhood Forum meetings being held at Dover Town on Thursday 1 October, and Deal and Walmer on Tuesday 6 October.
Dover Town Neighbourhood Forum is being held on Thursday 1 October at Dover Town Council Offices from 6.30pm. The meeting will be discussing The Sea Change Project and Regeneration. There is a range of exciting projects that continues to move forward for Dover and this is a chance for residents to come along and find out more. Speakers include: Nadeem Aziz, Dover District Council Chief Executive; Amanda Lumley, Kent County Council Regeneration and Project Manager; and Sarah Lang, Programme Officer from the Dover Pride Regeneration Partnership.
Deal and Walmer Neighbourhood Forum is being held on Tuesday 6 October at Deal Town Council Offices from 6.30pm. The meeting will be discussing Have Your Say On Flooding and Drainage. Come along and find out what the various agencies are doing and what you can do to protect yourself and your home. Speakers include representatives from DDC, the Environment Agency and Southern Water.
Doors for both meetings open at 6pm, with light refreshments and an opportunity to meet your local County, District, and Town and Parish Councillors, and other Forum members. There will be opportunities for questions throughout the course of both meetings. Residents will also have an opportunity to talk to a representative from the Dover District Community Safety Partnership. All suggestions are welcomed from local people about what they would like to discuss at future meetings.

07:2529157This will be of interest to quite a few Im sure. It should be interesting as it will help those baffled by the term Sea Change to learn more about it and what it means. I know a person who is baffled by all this stuff and he isnt sitting a million miles away from this keyboard. There are so many initiatives that it all becomes more than a little woolly to the man in the street. Nobody knows who is doing what any more. This meeting should help clear all this up. I will aim to be there for an information clarification.

07:5529524I hope it is well attended too Paul.
Too many people shout about nothing happening here and why does it take so long to get any progress on the regeneration, well now is their chance to see what is happening and to ask any questions.

09:4729543The Town Council gave Sea Change a hard time last night acording to our man from the EX***SS Rhys he told me as he came thru the station.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

06:3629576John - I don't know who made the loudest grumbles about Seachange at the Town Council meeting, but he who shouts loudest, isn't always right.
We need SeaChange - the money and the initiative, as well as all the other regeneration initiatives; there are almost always, aspects of any big development(s) that we may not totally agree with, but we mustn't get bogged down in minutia; we must look at the big(ger) picture.
If we are going to let ourselves get lost in his minutia, we'll lose out in a big way; we must be brave sometimes and take a firm grip on what we want and need for Dover.

07:3029640Well, a very informative Neighbourhood Forum took place in the Town Council offices last night and to say it was well attended, was an understatement.
Talkes were given about SeaChange by a Lady from KCC; Regeneration by Dover's Chief Executive and empty shops by the Dover Pride Programme Officer, followed by lots of various questions - some satisfied questioners, but many not.
SeaChange is about "connections" and I think connections between the various local tourist attractions, most of whom urgently need visitors, a site-seeing tourist bus is essential.
You'll not be surprised to hear that funding is the stumbling block.
The promenade/seafront is to upgraded to have a wave effect all along it and some of the current buildings will go; the retail outlets (little cafe's etc.) will be upgraded.
I had one more big question to ask, but they ran out of time, so I'll start another thread to let you know what that is.
A useful meeting and the best attended.
Roger

08:1229644shame about the conneting part,it seems that only the southern [seafront dhb] and the eastern hieghts [dover castle eh] are only being connected leaving the western hieghts [drop redoubt] and the nothern area [crabble corn mill]with the rest of the town are not included.it seems a shame that the money could spread further.in a word a disapointment.

08:2229647Yes was an interesting evening if a bit too long. I say that even though I came late. Saw all the usual 'same old faces', but hooray for them, they are the people that are interested in moving things forward.
At a rough guess not a single person under 50 attended, and yes it was a packed house. In fact most of the audience was probably over 60. Perhaps the younger members of society all have ambitions to move away from Dover and are not interested in development.
Will put something on the frontpage about it a bit later.

10:1729654I am not surprised at the attendance profile PaulB, such has always been the case. I am a bit annoyed that I missed it, had planned to go but had an unexpectedly busy afternoon and by the time I was sorted it was too late
