So, here I am, back home and still vertical! The things I do..... Well, the Lion is alive and well, I was greeting by a very freindly and welcoming young lady called Sarah, who is one of the two managers, the other being Kelly who was not on duty. The bar area was well stocked, the room was clean and fresh and the old sticky carpet has been replaced with a polished wooden floor. The loos have been updated and are a great inprovement. Some old plaques from the earlier days are to be replaced soon, which is a nice touch. No food is planned except maybe 'buffet style' bar bits on a Sunday and maybe good simple filled rolls. Three handpumps await thier real ale, Doombar is to become the standard along with Green King IPA, the 3rd pump reserved for guest/stronger ales, my Keg cider was £3.40 which is par for the course. Live music is on it's way, and the jukebox was background only. The Winkle Club may well reappear, but lots of work to do on that before it can open, watch this space! Some bar furnture is yet to arrive but it's early days and all in all the GL is looking good. Sarah has already opened a Facebook page and she is interested in joining the forum as a means of keeping us in touch, good thinking!
So, the verdict? Give it a go, I was pleased with what I found and, while not 'posh' I think the Lion is alive and well with the promise of more to come, go on, give it a go, you know you want too!
