Could some one please advise me why Dover Pride are funding artists from outside the area to make disparaging remarks about local business interests.I am talking about the 'art'and I am using the term in it's most flexiable form, located in Paul Browns old shop in the Market Sq.It is situated directly opposite 'Neet Feet' shoe shop.It alludes in it's 'artistic' fashion to the shoe shop its self.If this is the level of local support and insight directed towards local business, no wonder Dover's economy is in such an appaling state.I wonder does anyone know how much it has cost to slight a local business in this 'artistic' way and would some thing as provocative as this be directed at a business with more weight, say perhaps, Dover Harbour Board.

I saw that before I was sacked and went to speak to Melanie the owner of Neetfeet, she was none to happy.
All references to shoe-shops should have been removed; the original message on the window said "would you like a good shoe-shop here" - implying Neetfeet wasn't a good one.
Insensitive or what ?
I don't have a voice now.

the question is,has dover got any pride if so where is it.
I raised this subject at the Mayors business forum and will be raising it again at T&E cottee next week. I was told that when you engage an artist you have no control over what they produce!
Poppycock!!! If you engage an artist and spend a lot of money you should get what you want. DTC gave sponsorship to Dover Pride and i shall therefore be asking who what and why.
That shop and 3 market square are a disgrace and waste of money ( as is the graffiti on the side of the bus station).
I have received a comp-laint and will be pursuing it - be assured.

David did say that at the meeting and I along with others did support what he was saying.

There are many people who are not happy with a lot of the "artwork" on shop fronts or around the hoardings of the old bus-station.
I admit to being a philistine as regards art, but why do we employ artists to brighten up a shop window or to create a feeling of well-being, when all it does is upset people; surely the majority view should prevail ?
All references to shoes should be taken off.
I agree with your comment about poppy-cock David, isn't is a case of "he who pays the piper, calls the tune" - that's why I was sacked, because I wasn't subservient and wasn't allowed to make my own decisions.

Isn't there also the question of why pay out large sums to bring in an artist with little or no understanding of Dover when support and promotion could be given to local artists (through White Cliffs Creative Guild or others) who would be sympathetic to the locality and deserve the recognition?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

i must agree with chris, any artist must have an understanding of the area, therefore must be based in this area.

What exactly do Dover Pride do? Not a lot, from this chair.........
David, thanks for your action on this. You may add my name as a complainant.
For the record, I believe Neet Feet is an excellent shoe shop. Hasn't the lady who owns it won awards for business acumen? Deserved, if so.
True friends stab you in the front.

This is the former estate agent in the Market Square:-
It's a pity they didn't tidy up inside, where's the "pride" in this:-

I am sure that many local amateur artists would be pleased to submit some of their work to brighten up dreary closed shops.
I must admit to not looking very closely at the display discussed above, I just thought it had been done by some students and wondered why they had bothered. It obviously wasn't attention grabbing. And in my experience Neet Feet is a very good shop and the staff very helpful.
