17:539080To expand on that rather dry announcement, Jeanette has drafted a leaflet, the text of which is here:-
Got something to say about where you live?
The London Road Community Forum (LRCF) gives you the chance to speak up about what's happening on you doorstep. Degeneration, crime, planning developments and policing are all hot topics, which affect peoples lives. If you've got something to say about somewhere within the LRCF area come along to our meetings because the forum is a great way to get your voice heard and to make a difference to your local area.
Fed up with all talk and no action?
You'll be amazed at what can happen when people speak up. Since 2003 the LRCF have succeeded in many achievements. These include Halloween parties, Christmas light competitions, river clean up's and neighbourhood days. This year our efforts have largely been concentrated on the numerous empty dilapidated shops that the London Road hold. Our persistence is finally being paid off after a grant was awarded to us by Dover Town Council to start a clean up of the worst affected shops.
The way our forum works
The role of the forum is to express the views of all sections of the community on issues affecting us. It does this by liaising with the Council and other agencies, supporting local projects and community events.
The committee is made up of 10 individuals, some residents and some Councillors, who come together every 6 weeks to address common and complex issues to improve the quality of life in our area. The meetings are informal and we welcome members of the public, representatives of organisations, local Councillors and guest speakers.
Meetings are normally held on a weekday evening and run for about 90 minutes and if we're talking about local issues, we wouldn't expect you to trek halfway across Dover to give your views. That is why we alternate our meetings in different venues around the LRCF area. When a meeting is due to be held in your area will receive a flyer telling you where and when but you are of course welcome to attend any meeting that you wish.

13:559709Thought I'd bring you up to date following the AGM. The new committee is:-
Chairman - Jeanette Harper
Vice Chairman - Sue Jones
Treasurer - Phil Eyden
Secretary - Terry Nunn
Other members - Paul Sullivan
Martin Atkins
Roger Walkden
Mandy Richards
Kevin Maynard
David Hall
A good mix of people. As you will see, I am still there but in a lowly position. I will only take minutes, offer advice and receive writs!
Phil West has agreed to take on the website, thanks Phil, more news on that later.

23:169763Well aware of that Howard. My son used to live in a flat next door to it. His neighbour in another flat was burgled. There was, and still is, a connecting balcony. However, the police thought that the intruders might have used a ladder!
Rather than eclectric, I would have used "broad strectrum", I think I've got what I wanted. Time for bed. Been a long day. Nice people at Blakes tonight, left early, knees playing up.
