    Vic, I'm afraid your post 1700 history has let you down. On each occasion Britain has removed itself from the centre of European politics the outcome has been war.

    For anyone who is interested, there is an excellent book on the subject: "Choose Your Weapons" by Douglas Hurd.

    So, before anyone else tries to challenge the statement in #15 I suggest you check your facts by reading this historical treatise first. It's a seriously good read too.
