10:1610298I am late picking up on this but our former MP Peter Rees has died on Sunday aged 81.
Here is a link to his obituary...

For me he was a role model for what a Constituency MP should be, he was highly respected in Dover. He was elected in 1970 and served Dover well until 1987.

11:3010310I saw Peter a few years ago & he was still prepared to raise Dover issues via the House of Lords. I can't add anything better than has already been written. He was an MP in a time of historic political change.

17:1410328Back in 1978 I think it was and living in Sandwich the Local Labour Party sent me round to canvas Lord Rees or as he was then Peter Rees,I went thru all my speech and he smiled and told me that I had been stitched up,and we had a little laugh. At the Count he saw me again and came up and spoke to me,and asked me if I had canvassed any more Members of Parliment!
He was a committed man and quitely spoken but well respected by all sides,a decent man.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
