    I think if the landlord had tried to maintain the old fashioned village local he may well be out of business now, just like The Hope. The sad state of affairs is that there is now not enough support for the old school local pub anymore. I'm not aware of ever having an issue with just drinking in there though, when I used to live in Lydden I often popped in just for a drink with no issues.
