In the last century most jobs locally have centred around mining, digging tunnels and building harbours, all dangerous and dirty work. Heaven knows what nimbys would have done when we started digging holes at Snowdown, Tilmanstone and Betteshanger all those years ago.

Back then those that had the power were the actual owners who would have lived just far enough away for the works not to be seen or heard, those who lived near the working area were grateful to have a job there. Now the owners are faceless companies and those living near work elsewhere and are NIMBYs as their properties just might be devalued.

Manston could be an ideal site for a wind farm which would also upset the NYIMBYs. The chances of it ever being a large viable airport now seem very small which is a shame however much we all hope it succeeds.
