It is right that there should be a full set of views on this and I welcome them.
I would like to say that if the expected footfall is as high as it could/should be, then that increase in footfall will spill over into greater business for the shops.
Many shops are in a parlous state now, without a market, so why not go for it ? As I said earlier, many people don't come into Dover now, they go to Canterbury, Ashford, Folkestone or Westwood Cross.
We must give people a reason to come into Dover; we must give the businesses confidence that things will get better and not give up.
Now that I have no further influence in this, I hope that who ever does, keeps a good standard of stalls and doesn't bring in any new fruit and veg stalls as we have 8 already.
