There was on the lovely spring day walking from Canterbury to Sandwich just left Fordwich (which is a lovely little place) heading for Stodmarsh when 2 young ladies riding horses came up behind me,I let them pass mainly because of the traffic, although the view got better, then out of the blue 2 walkers appeared walking towards me.They spoke to the 2 young ladies on the horses who pointed in the direction I was walking too.The 2 walkers then came upto me and as I had my map out they said 'Which way to Stodmarsh Nature reserve'.
Now i recognised the man although I didn't know his name and told the couple they were walking the wrong way(they had been told this already) and I offered to show them the way as I was going thru the marshes to Grove Ferry and Plucks Gutter.Naturally they recognised me and asked me where I was going. They had been visiting their daughter in Preston near by but where from River.
The lady then started to give me a hard time why Dover was in such a state and asked me why we had wasted so much money on Town Centre Management, and I was trying to defend the Council.Me an opposition Cllr, and Town Centre Management, and it is no secret thet Mr Webb and I didn't see eye to eye then, although we are better now.
There I was out practise walking on my day off and getting it in the neck,I was quite please to get to Stodmarsh, although the man never said a word it was his wife,So I took them to the entrance wished them well and they did say thank you,and I must admit my walking got a lot faster...to get away from them...would you believe it.

Today while out walking again from Snowdown to Dover( on a warm down after walking Sandwich to Dover yesterday,)I had walked passed Shepherdswell near Coldred Court and 4 young people appeared in front of me heading towards Shepherdswell.
They looked lost so I asked them where they were going,to Dover was the reply, then follow me I said because you are heading in the wrong direction. It seem they walked from Canterbury to Shepherdswell yesterday and were walking around east kent. They were young Americans who were studying at Christchurch College and they had a few days to waste before flying home, they had camped in Shepherdswell last night and had been walking around trying to find their way to Dover most of the morning.
Just thinking if I should start a new trade. John Goodwin International Rescue!
