Mining museum

  Unless it has escaped my notice, there is no permanent museum devoted to the history of the Kent Coalfield. I haven't visited Fowlmead yet so don't know what mining exhibits are there.
  
  I think such a facility would be an excellent addition to the area's tourist attractions and needs to be set up while the ex-miners are around to tell their tales.

  Andrew I total agree with you but how do you go about doing the project?and the funding for the project?that is the big problem the history is there of all the Kent mines and the good thing it is inone area, you do have sites it could be put on e.t.c. the D.D.C. could help you in some way, they are good in that way have a word with them and your own local councils.

  I think the initiative needs to come from either the council or the communities themselves. It could be real addition to the area - schools from across the south east would flock there to see how mining worked.
  
  Snowdown seems ideal to me given its accessibility - health and safety permitting it could even be housed in the old colliery bulldings.
  
  Where there's a will, there's a way. If we managed to create the WCE we can certainly pull this one off.

  Don't know about Foulmead, but I had an inkling that there was something proposed as part of the Snowdown development when that happens.
  
  At the open weekend at the Heights at the end of May, we hope to have the display from CHIK (the coalfield project) on show...

  if there is no memorial for the coalmining comunity, why are the stout burghers of aylesham trying to nick our statue?
  my understanding was that it would be part of a larger project.
  
  will await our councillors to explain.
