    Money only works because of the faith we invest in it. Materially, it is actually relatively valueless. I don't know what the alternative would be but when you consider money in its wider context, it provokes some interesting thoughts. Once we used to take what we wanted, perhaps killing a rival to win the food or territory. Religion came along to keep our inner animals at bay and money became the way to trade so that we didn't have to kill each other for food - we could simply buy and sell it.

    I do believe that greed is a prehistoric instinct. Even modern politicians who are fiddling the expenses system are actually abandoning themselves to a very old, basic animal instinct. No matter what system you adopt to replace money, you will never replace or end the attraction of human greed. It's too old and too programmed-in to the human mind.
