  i understand that morrisons dominated the northern markets for years before moving down to the midlands and south.
  
  i also remember reading that the chap who started it, used to pay surprise visits to branches, loot through the skips and make song and dance about any waste.
  he reasoned that stuff nearing its use by date should be thrust to the front at a give away price.
  
  in those days he was considered a miser, today he would lauded.
