15:0938436or rather Labour MPs did...
This perhaps shows the state of Labour morale at the moment.
Last night MPs voted for a 12 day break in February, (from 10th to the 22nd Feb).
But, I should say only Labour MPs did.
Conservative and LibDem MPs all voted against with no Labour MP voting against.
This tired and discredited Parliament ends soon and the sooner the better. Roll on a General Election.

18:4938450MPs get more time off than Rip Van Winkle's bunk light as it is! I suppose the next step will be vote for six month's holiday, twice a year, all expenses paid!
Maybe it's time for MPs to have the same holidays as the rest of us - 25 days plus public holidays (if we're lucky).

19:1338452sounds to me like an election is set for late march or early april, and the government wants a bit of time to prepare and regroup.
a bit like england going to south africa for the world cup.

19:1338453I'm unaware of the circumstances for this decision but have to say are the MP's in the real world.
That whole top down review desperatly needed, but i don't think any of the three major parties will touch it in a way to make any real diffrence

23:2238472On the other hand we have had too many new laws and too much legislation so it might be better if Parliament had more holidays, 9 months a year maybe!!!

06:0238476Vic - try reading the first post, its only the reds that voted for this. UKIP will be seriously squeezed, make no mistake. I predict a national vote of 2% maximum and locally maybe less.

I think you are incorrect, the parties outside of the mainstream will probably do better this time round.
UKIP being one of them.

12:5938485vic you may well be right about the major parties scoring own goals.
the UKIP will do the same if they let lord pearson do their talking rather than nigel farage.

13:0638487Keith - you should read my blog properly. I mentioned recently that the polling for 'others' has reduced from a peak of 18% post expenses scandal to the 10/11% mark compared to the 8% achieved at the last general election. That squeeze will continue and accellerate between now and the election. I would be surprised if the manage the 8% they had last time, a figure shared between UKIP/Greens/BNP/SNP/PC and all the other little oddities.

14:1338488Howard your point about Lord Pearson is agood one and we know about what you are saying, indeed I have said that Nigel Farage is a very good talker.I do not think you will see lord Pearson taking a talking roll, but he is a good leader and very clever aswell ,and I am happy to see him in the roll as the leader.

I realise you can see your parties grip on govt slipping away, where a year ago even I would have said labour wouldnt make it, but now with Cameron not moving to the right enough for his own party cracks begin to open.
Then we have few policies and every time DC an nounces one his offce has to correct what he has just said because he gets it wrong.
And today we see cameron in the S east argueing with Maverick Boris over his plans in london and the two offices disagreei?
Boris
or
David ??

Its the real world, talking to the everyday person, hearing peoples views,
watching DC
Watching Boris,
the tories time is running out, then got so close, then threw it away, letting in the smaller parties, affecting the overall result.

09:3138568Keith - the turn-out at the next election will be the highest since 1997. People will be motivated by wanting, above all, to get this rotten Government out. The small parties, despite what you might hope, will get caught in a squeeze.
