  i notice that a new company has come on board advertising "gentlemans apparatus".
  
  perhaps our paul would like to clarify what this alludes to?

  Ah yes..well you see Howard in 1910 or thereabouts a gentlemans apparatus was very important to him. In those days you didnt have other distractions to blight your priorities, like television radio or cinema, so a gentlemans apparatus was all. During the long long winter evenings, and they were long, a gentleman would spend time tweaking polishing rubbing and manipulating his apparatus to ensure that it remained in tip top condition...while he awaited the arrival of spring with all its sap!
  
  Then with the arrival of spring he would canter out to take the light breezes in the park and sometimes even venture into Rotten Row where he could watch the fillies in all their finery...but even then, his apparatus would never be far from his thoughts
  
  ...in case anyone hasnt guessed by now the ad is a fake tester.

  Ah Rotten Row, one can picture the elderly american gentleman and his good lady wife taking the air, whilst watching the ladies and gentlemen cantering hither and thither in their morning ritual.
  
  When really the gentlemens thoughts were taken back to whether their personal valets were looking after their 'gentlemans apparatus' which due to their delicate construction could only be left for short periods of time with a gentlemans gentleman. Ah, as a well known diarist once said ''your description of the gentlemans apparatus is as light and delicate as a syllabub'

  Eton Academy for the Misinformed and Tetchy was a fine school, to be sure, as was Oxbridge Polytechnic Domestic Science Department - mentioned in the Daily Telegraph Womens pages on more than one occassion and referred to in Evelyn Waughs memoirs as the best place to learn how to fry sausages and serve sauerkraut - what a wonderful woman our Evelyn was.............

  her daughter auberon was a bit of a rum cove though.
  
  interesting place eton, i remember the late george melly saying that he was rogered by peregrine worsthorne there.
