New Dover Lorry park opens

  Last night at whitfield priority Freight lorry park officially opened. I think its a very significant event for the town and will give allow those responsible bodies to rebutt the excuse that there isnt any facility in the area.
  
  In fact it is a site with great facilities and will take 80 lorries. Security is high and it has a cafe, showers etc and level hardstanding with 24 hr access and security. It also has facilities for transloading to smaller vehicles and between carriers.
  
  The Williams family who run it and have invested a large sum are confident in the future of Dover and the british haulage Industry.
  
  Yes it isnt free but £20 per night for such facilities and more importantly for the security it offers is on a par with camp sites offerering a lot less to we caravanners.
  
  What Priority need - and it is in the hands of the authorities - is for signage on the main road and referrals there - the sooner it is full, the sooner Gearge Williams, the Chairman, has said he will open another!

  Nah, they'll carry on parking on channel view road and throwing their **** and **** into the bushes

  As you know David, I couldn't attend the launch, but hope that all those important people who said they'd turn up, did in fact, do just that.
  
  I wish Priority Freight much success with this - I understand that two senior officers at DDC went to see them on Wednesday and hope that meeting had a successful outcome for them.
  
  Secure parking, showers and dining facilities, make it a very worthwhile place for drivers and their trucks.

  only if the drivers are willing to spend money.why pay through the nose when they can park in a lay bye dangerisly.

  The point is that there is now somewhere to go thus they can be moved on. It is being used by responsible drivers - security is a big issue for some.

  Many east European drivers are only paid £35 a day and simply cannot afford it.

  Well then if they HAD to pay to park then they would need to have more money - why should the ratepayers subsidise them by having to clean up after them. Their money is supplied by owners who undercut British businesses.
  
  Anyway those that can afford it would appreciate the facility.

  It's a good step, but the irresponsible drivers - you know the ones, they park with their a**ses out into the main road, or in the dark on slip roads, or on corners, or over white lines, or anywhere where they can get away with it - which is anywhere apparently - will not use a decent but £20 site when they can do the illegal or dangerous thing without ever being challenged. Good old traffic police - I understand they are better used pulling over middle aged women doing 34 MPH in an isolated and empty 30 mph area, or insisting someone whose tail light is broken but who has the bulb in her car and is on her way, in daylight, to get her husband to fix it takes all her documents to the copshop where she can be roundly abused in the waiting room ("room" is used loosely) by some little felon waiting to be processed for ABH.

  I've just read the article on this, whilst it sounds like a great idea there is no signage for it (including on the website) and why if you're being paid in potatoes are you going to shell out any money when you can park en-route on the A20? This needs to be a free scheme with two sites, one for the eastern docks and one for the western docks. The very fact this hasn't already been done by the DDC tells you everything you need to know about where the priorities lie for this kind of thing.
  
  Honestly I give it 6 months, before we're reading column space "...we had to close because of lack of support from the council"

  David in an ideal world what you say would happen but its not and it wont. Chris priority will survive and make money because they are cheaper than Ashford services as well as Motto services at medway services. Still it does not alter the fact that on the continent truck parking is free.
