  I wonder if all households in the above area will get a letter and then qualify as I would love my solid walls to get "no cost to you" insulation..

  I've got solid walls too Jan - will they create a cavity for me with a free new outer wall so's I can have free cavity wall insulation as well?

  We had one of those deals when we were in Buckland Avenue - the surveyor told me as soon as I opened the door that he could tell from the style of brickwork that we had no cavities.
  
  I insisted on dragging him up into the loft to show them to him, I guessed that he had decided there was no profit in our house from what he was paid under the scheme.

  Neil, I have lovely but very large windows that take up most of the front wall so I doubt my fuel saving would be very much and possibly not worth the hassle of having the work done plus the buildings character might be lost.
  
  Having a concrete floor I would prefer some kind of insulation there, I dare not go barefoot in the Winter or my toes might get frostbite.
