DDC Press Release***
WELCOME TO WHITE CLIFFS COUNTRY
Welcome to White Cliffs Country - from the towns of Dover, Deal and Sandwich, and the rural areas, to our world famous coastline and heritage. The area has been painted and filmed, celebrated and enjoyed, and visitors everywhere are invited to come along and discover for themselves everything that makes this a unique location.
That's the message in an exciting new multi-media tourism campaign for White Cliffs Country 2009, which is launched at the Secret Gardens of Sandwich today (26 March).
A colourful new Visitor Guide is being launched at the event. The guide has been fully updated, with latest information and photographs showcasing the area, including details of famous faces and scenes, and information on the area's impressive history. The guide is packed with information on great days out and places to stay in White Cliffs Country. It includes details on a range of events, including the celebration of the centenary of Louis Bleriot's solo flight across the Channel on 25-26 July.
Dover District Council also continues to produce the popular Accommodation and Days Out Leaflets, as part of a fully integrated marketing campaign, coordinated with a national media and targeted direct mail campaign.
The event at the Secret Gardens also launches the White Cliffs Greeters Programme. This exciting project is being led by Visit Kent as part of the Pride in Kent Campaign, with DDC, the White Cliffs Country Tourism Association, Sandwich and Dover Town Councils as partners in the project. Based upon the Big Apple Greeters in New York, this project is currently only the second of its kind in the country. This is a newly formed group of enthusiastic local volunteers set up to enable visitors to meet up with knowledgeable 'greeters' for their visit to White Cliffs Country.
Cllr Frederick Scales, Dover District Council Cabinet Member for Economy and Special Projects, said: "Tourism plays an important part in the local economy, and this campaign shows the effective partnership working between the Council and the industry, working together to promote White Cliffs Country as a great place to visit."
Cllr Kit Smith, Dover District Council Cabinet Member for Skills, Training and External Relations, said: "We are proud to promote a warm welcome for visitors to White Cliffs Country. This is a great opportunity to turn the spotlight on the many amazing attractions of the area."
