Spotted in today's paper - You thought you had heard of everything, well here is the latest, Nomophobia - the fear of being out of mobile phone contact, as reported in the Daily Mail today.
It seems apparently that millions of us out there are suffering from this strange affliction where people have become so dependent on their mobile that they can suffer from the stress of being out of range or discovering that the battery is out of charge. This stress according to research is affecting more than 13 million Britons, it seems that keeping in touch with friends and family is the main culprit so much so that many cannot leave home without being wedded to their mobiles. More than one in two said that they never turn off their mobiles, one in ten said that they needed to be contactable at all times due to work, with a further 9% said that turning off their phone made them anxious.
The poll was put together by the Post Office who questioned more than 2,100 mobile phone users, one interesting fact that came to light in this report is that there are 66 million active mobile phone accounts in the UK. A spokesman said that ' Whether you have run out of credit or battery, lose your phone or are in an area with no reception, being phoneless can bring on a panicky symptom in our 24/7 culture' (Better avoid using your mobile in St Maragret's Bay then).
Sufferers are advised to avoid nomophobia to keep their credit topped up, carry a charger at all times, give family and friend an alternative contact number and carry a pre-paid phonecard for emergency calls.
Or try to liberate yourself from the shackles of your mobile by simply switching it off! (ie Get a life)
I wonder how much this research cost and have we ended up paying for it.
If I made this posting tomorrow you would have been right to say, April Fool!

This is quite clearly a serious phobia and nothing whatsoever to do with April 1st. I believe this 21 st century phenomena can lead to hospitalisation and maybe even sectioning in the local psycho ward. But help is at hand. Dr Herman Strauss of the Vienese Nuthatch Clinic is working on a solution which involves plugging the mobile phone owner himself or herself into the mains, thereby eliminating all need for batteries.
However, regretfully the technique has not been as yet been perfected and there have been numerous casualties...in fact Dr Strauss's own mother whom he had been using as a guinea pig was seriously fried in the early stages. She is still alive god help her, but her hair suffers from permo frizz and her toes curl up alarmingly..she just cant wear shoes no more.

trust posh baz to know such an impressive word.
the thing about mobile phones is that before they were invented i always assumed that the average person was interesting, when they became popular, people with these things stuck to their ear utter things like, wots for tea,i am on the train, wot u doing,u got the hump etc etc.
having said that i hate it when i go out and leave mine at home.

I binned mine last year, the only calls I got were daughters asking for money, never could get the hang of texting, have you noticed people crossing the road texting without looking at the traffic,a couple of weeks ago I saw a man in Buckland Ave riding his bike on the payment and texting at the same time.MAD!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Thats fascinating indeed as I didnt know Dr Hermann Strauss had also invented the Viennese Whirl...well at least some good became of the unfortunate incident with his mother, the poor thing was actually left plugged into the mains while Dr Hermann took his luscious crumpet one evening to the state opera...for a Viennese Twirl!!...so while he was out Twirling, his mother was actually at home inadvertendently inventing Whirling..
I hope this is making sense.

I have Nolaptophobia - I even take my laptop on holiday so I can check my e mail etc.

I do take my mobile out with me most days (unless I forget it) but it's on office hours most of the time!

I keep forgetting my mobile. It sits in a tray on my desk, switched off most of the time!

Can't say I missed mine till it was stolen last month!
Sure was useful when I had it and have immediately replaced it with a basic el-cheapo one so it will not be a temptation!!!
I have received several good pics from folks who have used theirs to take a pic as I performed, so not just useful to make and receive calls.

Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........
