It is now ten years since Norfolkline commenced operations on the Dover Strait and somebody came up with the bright idea of all three ships dressing overall for a week so we have dug out all the lights and flags and strung them up.
Here are a couple of photos of the three ships in Dunkerque West on saturday night layover, and one of the Maersk Dover at dusk.

Ah jeez well done with all that Ed...I knew you'd know..as I was wondering what was going on, because for the past few days Ive seen the lights and bunting on the ships. Gosh I was doing this forum, or an earlier version of it before Norfolkline, so I would have thought someone would have put me out to graze well before now..aaarrrrgh!!!

The years are flying by and no mistake.
But yes it is a great success story for Norfolkline. They started with the smaller flat black ships called Northern Merchant and some others of similar name. Looks like that very one has been regurgitated for use by LDLines now on the Boulogne route, so obviously they are solid workhorses, but then Norfolkline went glamorous with the current fleet in sky blue colours. I remember the day the first of those came. The tugboats greeted them with traditional water salute etc. I did have photos one time but I think they were among some of my archive lost. But Norfolkline did very well to squeeze an opening for themselves against the mighty P&O and Seafrance who seemed to have the channel sown up at the time.

speaking to a retired ferry worker today, he said that there were rumours going around of norfolk line being a target for a takeover.
has anyone else heard anything?

Super picture`s Ed, but why wait 10 year`s? They should be done up like that more often. Certainly bring`s them to life, and gives them that cruise ship look.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

Spotted the lights on one of their ships late last week. I wondered what that was all about. Thanks Ed.

If at first you don't succeed, use a BIGGER hammer!!
DFDS!!! Aren't they the company that advertises on tv their "must finish soon" sale, that actually never finishes?

i think it is wonderful that a furniture company still finds the time to run a shipping line.
they have set an example to others on the importance of multi tasking.
They're only armchair enthusiasts though Howard.

Maersk is selling Norfolkline to DFDS although the deal has yet to receive ratification from the EU, expected shortly. Maersk will be taking a 31% stake in the enlarged DFDS. Would presume that things will stay much the same as they are with the three Maersk D's running from Dover, although time will tell. Sounds like the furniture will be OK, anyway!
