It does seem odd that the same people as are in favour of a big telly in the street, seeing it as much needed regeneration, are down on Dover actually having a night club that might provided something for visitors to do in the evenings. Obviously I am not talking about those that want to stand around Market Square with a can of beer watching football but rather those who may wish to part with some cash in our town.
Nu Age was very clearly allowed to go in the wrong direction and sadly, but justifiably earned its nick-name of Under Age. However the fact that it was always packed did prove two things. One, that the under eighteens are crying out for somewhere to go in the evenings and have the money to do so. Secondly that the need for a night club is strong enough for those legally allowed to drink were prepared to brave the 'under-age' element in order to visit one.
Dover is crying out for a night life and if somebody is prepared to spend the money refitting this club premises we can hope that will also make sure that it properly managed. This is not Nu-Age, it is a new venture, something this town needs so let us, at the very least, give it a fair chance. It may be shocking to realise but not everyone wants to watch television in the evenings.
