The railway company I am working for have been given money to get people doing an NVQ,and I put my name forward about a 2 years ago. Then nothing for 18mths then someone came to my office and said can you come off the window for 30 mins so I can go thru the paper work, I couldn't because I was the only person in the office and people wanted serving.
So in 3 mins he told me there are the papers read them fill them in and he gave me the impression that it was a complete waste of time.20 years ago I was on one of the first NVQ trial courses and had to choose a task and I choose to show everyone how to put a disposal nappy on a baby, using a doll not my daughter who is now 22.
So my question is,is an NVQ really worth it,next week I will be observed by a lady to see if I can do my job,the job I have been doing for 35 years! Now lets presume I can't will I get the sack.No. If I can will it make me more qualified can I put the initials NVQ after my name NO. Will having an NVQ make me better at my job.The lady has never worked in aTicket Office and is it worth having a NVQ in selling tickets, actually it is called Customer Services.
I have actually agreed to do it only because one of my jobs on the Council is Consumer Affairs.....but is it really worth it?
