From the House of Commons library, briefing paper 9031, figures for 2019.
The UK made 3,259 transfer requests to EU member states, and 263 transfers took place. 40% (104) went to Germany and 20% (53) went to France.
This was the final year of the 'grace' period. Make of the figures what you will but it's not true to say we weren't trying to send asylum seekers back.
And I can assure you ( mainly for Bob's benefit) that after 15 years working in Northern France dealing wth the Douane and PAF on a daily basis, that there is no orchestrated encouragement for asylum seekers to make these crossings.
