MAJOR BRISTOL CITY CENTRE HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTRE CONVERTED TO HOUSE OVER 500 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS MAKING IT ONE OF THE BIGGEST SINGLE LOCATIONS IN THE SOUTH WEST THAT HAS BEEN USED BY THE HOME OFFICE FOR THIS PURPOSE
MERCURE BRISTOL HOLLAND HOUSE is a stylish four star luxury hotel that has a swimming pool, gym, restaurant, and bar
The hotel has around 275 ROOMS, as well as 12 conference venues, which are also being converted
Staff were told this week, and many have lost their jobs as guests have had bookings cancelled
The hotel has cancelled all its bookings, told staff on zero hours contracts they will no longer be employed, and set the rest of the staff to work on a conversion for people who are seeking asylum in this country housed there by the Home Office
Staff said they had been told the hotel had changed hands, and their contracts and employment was now with Countrywide Hotels, a Devon-based hotel management and consultancy company. The hotel in Bristol doesn’t feature in the portfolio of hotels on the firm’s website, and a spokesperson said any queries had to be directed at the Home Office
Other staff said they had been told the hotel was now owned by a company called Bristol Hotel Operating Ltd
This is a company set up and registered with Companies House just eight days ago, at an address in Surrey. Its sole director is a Varun Chada, who has nine other companies also set up in 2023
They all appear to be associated with the operating or management of different hotels across the country, in locations including Cannock, Rotherham, Redditch and Dunstable in Kent
Three of Mr Chada’s hotel operating companies were registered in March six were registered in August
