Channel migrants given right to work in UK
Home Office grants asylum seekers route to employment in care, construction and farming
Charles Hymas, Home Affairs Editor 19 January 2024 • 9:00pm
Nearly 16,000 asylum seekers, including those who crossed the Channel in small boats, have been allowed to work in a single year
Channel migrants have been quietly given the right to work in sectors including care, construction and agriculture and can still retain access to state-subsidised bed and board under a Home Office scheme...
Well that's going to discourage those who are merely ecconomic migrants! Free movement of labour like the EU used to have PLUS subsidised accommodation.

Hansard:-
Siobhan Baillie
(Stroud) (Con)
I thank my right hon. Friend and the Prime Minister for listening to my Stroud constituents’ concerns about illegal migration and speeding up processing, and for taking seriously my calls to close a migrant hotel in my patch. I caution Labour Front Benchers against playing political games over which hotels are closing, because not only do they have no plan themselves, but they do not know what many of our constituents have been through, because Members of Parliament, local police and local residents have worked hard to keep incidents out of the newspapers, so that they do not escalate.

An issue that will remain unresolved right up to(and after) general election .

That was an interesting read, thanks for sharing, Bob.
The problem the Tories have (in my humble view) is that at the start of all this and the creation of the "stop the boats" slogan, they didn't actually think they would have to stop them. What they really wanted was to be able to run the narrative that "leftie lawyers" stopped them, or, "the unelected Lords", or, or, or. Trouble is, that argument didn't fly and the rest is history.

The 'thought' doesn't go deep, just 'if we say "stop the boats" and "Rwanda" then people won't think we're ideologically committed to open borders immigration like the Labour Party'.
These great minds are also 'thinking' about Ukraine and Israel.

But do they really think the general public believe them?
Surely this is doomed to failure no matter how it's dressed up?

Well, belief in the British general public's reputation for a general sceptical attitude, especially towards politicians and the media, is not justified in my opinion. So, 'yes' is my answer to the question of whether 'they' really do think the general public believes them. After all, if 'the best of us' are in office, what does that say about those who put them there?
I'm not sure what your 'failure' refers to. If you see 'stop the boats' and 'Rwanda' as deceptions then it's clear they've been successes.

Official announcement.
'Move along the bus, Plenty of room on the top deck!'
To put this in perspective, 13.7m migrants is greater than the combined population of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, including the migrants in those countries, with enough people left over to fill an extra Wales.
Unprecedented, permanent societal change with no electoral mandate.

The thing about 'democracy' is that the electorate
has mandated such a change; it just thought it was voting for 'cheaper sprouts' or 'free wigs on the NHS'.
It's like buying a novel by 'Lucy Niceperson' with a hazy figure in pastel-coloured background on the cover, then finding out it's a sub-Lovecraft Cthulhu horror-fest filtered through a Hieronymus Bosch hellscape written by a one-armed death-metal throat singer with tattooed eyeballs. You still bought the book.

Oh the joy of statistics .
Who knows what the trend will be in 22yrs time, the above figures are guess work based on previous numbers which might have been collected at any time when we had completely open boarders..
As an aside we need immigrants to do the jobs that so many of our existing population refuse or are unable to do.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I'm shocked that statistical projections are based on existing trends.
Why weren't we informed?
