Just seen the result:
Sarah Wollaston - 7,914
Sara Randall Johnson - 5,495
Nick Bye - 3,088
Sarah Wollaston is a 47-year old local GP and mother-of-three. She beat two local government types and is new to politics.
She won with 48% of the vote, 16,497 having voted in total, a very strong endorsement.
Interesting quote from Labour MP Tom Harris from his blog:
""We're expecting the result of the Conservatives' Totnes open primary selection any minute (I'll check to see whether it's been announced before I hit "publish"). If, as Anthony Painter suggests, 10,000 electors have taken part in the process, then it can be considered a resounding success — and a success of lasting significance to British politics.""
If thats what he thinks regarding the possibility of 10,000 votes, what will he think of over 16,000?
