    Yes this is very interesting. I saw coverage of this whole concept about a week ago on Newsnight and saw an interview with the lady in question. Very unassuming type and easy to like, and this idea has clearly resonated with local people. Just look at the turnout! Its a clever idea to give the people of the town their own candidate rather than have some oddball foistered upon them, which often happens.

    This novel way could certainly give a leg up in a general election because people will want to see their own candidate win through.

    The idea has freshly re-engaged local people in politics at a time when people everywhere are sick of politics and more particularly ..politicians! It wont though Im afraid be coming to a constituency near you as most simply cant afford to do it. As BarryW said...it cost the constituency office £40,000...so it wont be happening in Dover with either party.
