  Brilliant. Those who knew the late Steve Callacher (head of maths at the boys' Grammar) and attended his funeral will remember the transport I laid on for the mourners to get from Blakes to Barham and back.
  
  After his death the executors asked us to arrange the food and drink before and after, and to arrange transport for as many people as necessary. The funeral was set for 4pm on a Friday in early June, i.e. a school day. As numbers climbed past 50 I realised to my dismay that getting a fleet of taxis or minibuses at a time when they were all under contract to the education department of KCC was totally out of the question. Quietly panicking on the Monday morning before the funeral, I was looking out of the window when a large blue open-top bus trundled past. On the side it said: To hire this bus phone 01303 ...... So I did. £250 for the afternoon. I phoned the executors and said, what about it, it seats 79 people? Steve's family liked the idea so much they cancelled their 2 limos (saving £450) and came on the bus. We almost filled it. Everyone had a great time and thank God it didn't rain!
