In fact Howard, you are right. I used to be self-employed as painter and decorator, with occasional gardening, and earned quite well, and couldn't accept all the work offered, as I was booked out. Word spreads, as you stated. Vic is also right in as much as the amount one can ask inorder to receive the contract has to be below, a lot below the figure that a a pinter or gardener would expectto receive.
Presently I am starting to purchase the most elementary tools, but have already a number of jobs in line, painting and gardening.
But if I had access to land, I'd go and plant orchards straight away! I love that kind of work, and also growing vegetables. Unfortunately, there are no orchards that need planting here in Kent that I know of, I never find any kind of advertising for that sort of work, and to think that I laugh at the odd blister on my thumb and the scratches from black-berry bushes, they are a normal part of my life when gardening!

I do get satisfaction from writing too, and last night was up till three writing another article. I was really pleased and enjoyed the work, listening to Scottish military bagpipe music from a CD through my head-phones.
