During the past few months do people share the view that there have been some systemic failings with In our Party system,I have the Impression that at best It Is contrived and at worst an Irrelevance. Can the Parties that make up the fabric of our Political landscape evolve and engage the voter again.

Yes the party politics game done excessively certainly puts people off. Recently for example I thought it was poor form when David Cameron played the party politics game re Afghanistan, the very same day as the big funeral of the dead soldiers. It wasnt nice that, and one or two people expressed surprise. Party Politics isnt about achieving anything good is it...its just saying...vote for me at the next election. So doing it in the midst of the funeral was unsavoury I thought.
As far as engaging the voter goes...there is an effective story P3 of todays Daily Mail, which highlights that from next tuesday our lately much unloved unwashed MP's are taking 82 days off ! yes indeed 82 days off. Jeez thats the good life isnt it. Gimme some of that. As I say, they go next tuesday and are not scheduled to be back at Westminster until OCTOBER 12.
While the rest of us are carrying on in the daily frontline, dealing with the recession, concerned about losing our jobs, worrying about wars on terror, they 've all legged it! This as well as other very generous holiday periods they have too.
On top of all that of course, they have the ability to claim for almost everything you can think of...well up to now anyway.
So their process of re-engaging with the public has a long way to go.

welcome john.
paul mentions the above, all valid points, may i add the following.
1) the penny has still not dropped with them, the guilty ones that are standing down, will recieve whopping pensions and other goodies, no doubt.
2)we are now getting to the issue of second, third or even tenth jobs. these are the same people that were so busy in the commons they needed a second home as 10 miles was too far away to travel.
3) only a few weeks ago, in the middle of the furore, they were stopped at the last minute from voting themselves a massive pension rise, whilst the news was full of bad news for working peoples pensions.
in short, they have not learned anything, they still see us as poking our noses into the hallowed rooms of their club.

I agree Howard, there's no sense of sorry or shame, just Oh s**t I've been found out.
Until there's some real punishment, the general public will still think or feel there's one rule for them and one for us - and we're the ones paying for their misdemeanours/greed.

ROGER/HOWARD
The MP's fiasco is one that will take a lot to get people back on board.
Iv never known anything like it, politics has died, and the national/local parties need to re engage sadly I don't think will
but i live in hope

Well as I said before Keef they wont be engaging too many of us for the immediate future as they are all off on an 82 day break returning Oct 12...so we will all have to wait for any big effort at re-engagement.
The only thing that might re-engage the public at this juncture is an election when the unsavouries can be swept away. Im hoping people like Horrid Hazel with her 'rocking the boat' message will be cast into oblivion. There is nothing worse than a betrayer.

Yep and the duck pond guy, and many others
Oh and by the way wy should they be off for 82 days? if they can be off that long are they realy needed in the first place?
This is a cross party fing, all 3 major parties got themselves into, and i reckon they will hope everyone will forget.
But paulb just wiping them out of office won't solve the problem, wot it needs is an overhaul of the system.
but will that happen? sadly me finks not
end result, some MP's will be lost, some that are unsavioury will survive, the system remains much the same, but politics engagement goes even further down the agenda, and even fewer people vote.
sad but true

well mr heron.
the answer to your question seems to be a resounding no.
roger summed it up for me earlier with his "oh sh*t, we have been rumbled" bit.
there is absolutely no sign of change.
i read the other day that the minority parties(ukip, bnp and greens) still can command 15% of the total vote.
from what i have read about them, i cannot see any of them having any particular philosophy or set position on issues.
maybe that is what appeals.
