PASSPORT 2 SPORT 2008
An action-packed event is kicking off at Victoria Park in Deal on Saturday 7 June from 11am to 4pm - with the 5th annual Passport 2 Sport.
The free event features a range of activities, displays and games, and the opportunity to try new sports, and other youth activities. The event is about fun and participation, and gives local sports clubs and youth groups the opportunity to showcase themselves, whilst aiming to recruit new members.
Last year's Passport 2 Sport attracted around 3,000 young people, with many signing up for activities laid on by a range of local groups. This year's event features a wide variety of sports, including football, cricket, basketball, rugby and martial arts, and extreme sports such as skateboarding, BMX and blading. The day will also feature information on how to get involved in sports in local communities for the future.
The event is being organised by Dover District Council's Community Development and Sport Development teams, in partnership with Kent County Council's Youth Service.
Cllr Mrs Julie Rook, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, Citizenship, Youth and Sport said: "Passport 2 Sport is a great chance for people to enjoy a day out and try a range of healthy activities, and for local sports groups and organisations to showcase the important work they do in the community and to promote themselves to a new generation of members for the future."
Mike Hill, KCC Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: "We are delighted to be supporting this event and encourage people to come and visit and try some of the wide range of exciting activities that are taking place."
