Colin, I don't agree with the corruption thing. To my knowledge only one councillor has ever been accused of something as underhand as that, and he has been mayor more than once subsequently and is still a prominent figure in the Labour party here in Dover. I don't mention his name because I'm not sure he has ever been convicted. The point is, we are served by local folks who have stood up to be counted, put their money where their mouth is etc. To the best of my knowledge they are all passionate and honest lads and ladettes.

The problem seems to me to be vision. There is no cohesive vision for Dover, and that is no surprise bearing in mind how many cooks there are in the ktichen. Let's name some of the interested parties working to their own agenda in our town: KCC, DDC, DTC, various parish councils, SEEDA, CoC, private developers, P&O, Norfolk Line, DHB, SeaFrance, English Heritage, WCCTA, Labour Party, Conservatives, LibDems, UKIP, Dover Pride, Dover Society, LRF..... and so it goes on. Consequently, we suffer from a lack of vision, joined up thinking and single goals to aim for. Public consultation is nothing more than a sop, and the public can't be bothered because they know it's all talk.

What a shame therefore that our MP's for the last 30+ years have also failed to provide a visionary capable of galvanising all the aforementioned bodies into a single "fighting for Dover" unit, with a common goal related to dragging Dover forward. Sadly, I don't see Charlie as a visionary either, so maybe the local MP is the last person to consider for that role?
