For years Dover had an indoor market, did well too, before the war, the museum used to be over the top of it, but they moved the stuff from the Museum to under the Town Hall once the war started. The market hall was used for the dead when they brought the bodies back from Dunkirk, it opened again as an indoor market after the war and continued to do very well, it closed when they did York Street and demolished some of the buildings around for re-development, the only part left was the facia, now in its place we have a small cinema, and a new museum, which to my mind does not look or feel like a museum, when we lost the indoor market we also lost the traders from outside, and the demise of Dover started to take shape
