Just been watching the news showing the tragedy of today where it looks certain that over 600 people perished, which will be added to the 900 that have already died attempting the crossing this year. No doubt the people at the top of this racket will have covered their tracks. Italy and Malta are complaining that they get no help from the EU. Makes our Calais/Dover problem look slight by comparison.

It does indeed Howard.
These migrants from North Africa to Italy are being driven to take their lives in their hands because of the war-zones they are trying to flee from.
How we help those countries being torn apart, is another question. The first one must surely be stop selling the arms to the protagonists. they can't fight if they have nothing to fight wth. How Europe (as an organisation) handles the refugee problem, will be interesting.

They will set up camps in Europe.
That will be the wet decision of the EU ,when in reality we should bomb Libya until they stop attacking Europe with migrants.

Good thinking Keith lets make Libya even more inhospitable, that will surely stop anyone wanting to leave!!! Shall we bomb the camps in calais and use the refugee boats in the Med for target practice as well Keith?

You cannot move this many people with out local government knowledge and help
When kadaffy was in power ,the threat was give us cash or we open the flood gates ,The head of the snake has changed but not the policy.
The only sensible European policy regarding mass moment of the world populations' as it approaches 9 billion, is repatriation and stop interfering in the s..... holes of the world.
If the politician we have now do not,, the politicians that replace them will.

Would bombing Libya not be interfering in the sh*t holes of the world then as per your suggestion in #3?

Wherever western forces go they leave the people that are supposed to need our help a lot worse afterwards. 86% of refugees fleeing war zones opt for a neighbouring country, stands to reason that where they go will have broadly similar food, culture, religion etc and makes it easier to return once the fighting is over. There is no logic in travelling great distances, facing great dangers especially at sea unless they are just trying to improve their financial position.

A bit of an oversimplification Howard but the gist is correct. But they also want to come here because English is the worlds second language.

if we go with kieths idea, instead of bombing the countrys he spoke about, why not land mine the entire north african beaches from east to west,5 miles deep from low tide.and have gun boats cruiseing along the coast 3 miles out just in case.

We could give them a time frame to stop the problem, leaflet their populations before we bomb them
What we are seeing is politically instigated warfare against the west, much like the cheap flow of drugs, all to destabilise the west.
Libya and all the other sh...holes will not suddenly become democratic and good friends of Europe, it isn't going to happen no mater how much cash we give them

It’s sad the way that human beings treat one another......they’ve just become a commodity for profiteering.

I watched the news today, oh boy!
Tea-lights, balloons AND Chinese lanterns this time. Usual sombre platitudes to camera. Just Giving pages to be set up. Various vigils to be organised.
......... and you know as well as I, that within a fortnight all this will be forgotten and public interest will move on.

I tried your idea out on our freezer Jan and now I’m a bit worried about what might be lurking inside!
As for the vegans diet it looks like some of the plants in our garden could have feelings as they too are showing an uncanny warmth!
