20:3037468Something I can hold my hand on my heart and say is that after any shopping at supermarket`s etc, over the year`s, when we`ve got home, we`ve always washed our hands, which you should do anyway, but more so with all those hands holding the trolley or basket. My wife and I saw a man sneezing into his hands some years ago, down at the old Sainsburys, and then just held the trolley, and off into the store. What I`m saying here is, would it be a good idea for store`s to copy hospital`s, and place an anti bacterial hand dispenser to use on the way in, or out? I don`t know if those trolley`s/handbasket`s are ever disinfected, but if not, they must be crawling with germs. Often wonder why some are sticky sometimes.

21:5037477they have one of those hand dispensers at my quacks surgery.
everyone just walks past it.
there was a chap that delivered newspapers and magazines to patients at the william harvey, he totally ignored warnings about using the disinfectants.
naturally the hospital banned him, he went griping to the press.

21:5737479I don`t really know how effective it is Howard, as when I was up King`s last year, doctor`s and nurses rubbed their hands with it, had a natter to the patient, then put some more on. They seem to be constantly doing it, as if it wear`s off after 10 minute`s or so.

22:1437482Shopping trolleys, my pet subject.
I did a book on abandoned ones last year! They don't get washed as such, they get hosed down occasionally (that's the ones that don't end up in the river!)
No trolleys were harmed during the compilation of this book!

16:4537546Lol Colin, I had bruises where the sun don't shine after sitting in that trolley for an hour during a photo shoot!
I have a widget thing (I'm sooo technical) on my website to my online bookstore.

16:5037548I often wonder about the usefulness of washing ones's hands after using the gents in say the pub or supermarket. What's the next thing you after? Use the door handle to get out. Who's to say how many people have opened the door without washing their hands first.

18:2737559I agree, but wouldn't be able to leave the room without scrubbing my hands anyway!! Those anti-bacterial gels are a useful tool if they don't replace washing - they just give an added protection in just those circs, Terry, when other peoples grubby mitts have been on the door handle etc. I always carry a bottle in my briefcase, in the cars and in my pocket if I am visiting 3rd sector services/hospitals/PCT offices/social services offices/anywhere that grubby hands might be!!!

19:2337573I try to use my elbow to open the gents doors on the way out, but have came a cropper to many times when a desperate customer has burst in at 30 miles a hour!
So its those little bacterial gels for me, very handy I've been using them for around 4 years now

23:0137613I never touch the free nuts / nibbles in those little dishes left on some bars.
I like the way the Japanese disinfect notes before they leave the cashpoint machines.
