I'm surprised that there has not been more of a public outcry about the inexorable rise in petrol prices. Now at over £1.20 a litre! This is really hitting people in the pocket, and must be raising serious problems for hauliers and other transport operators.
Yep, but some would lay the blame on the oil companies rather than where it belongs.

........and, indeed, the effect it's having on those of us with smaller vehicles used for their businesses. My diesel bill is currently about £60 per week, a rise of approximately 20% since autumn. Those costs have to be met from somewhere......
There will be those who say it's not the Government's fault. Cobblers. Over 60% of the price of petrol and diesel is tax and duty; it's just plain greed from a Government that cannot see the harm excessive taxation has on businesses. I cannot understand why the hauliers aren't blockading the M25 in protest. During an election campaign I think their protests would have maximum effect.
True friends stab you in the front.
Andy, there are too few hauliers in a position to perform a blockade. I chatted to one of the Husk brothers about this some years back. He was predicting a collapse of the UK road haulage industry, and he is not far wrong.
Overseas hauliers coming ionto the UK, fill up before coming here, so don't contribute anything towards the Exchequer for use of our roads.
Successive governments have ignored the obvious, with catastrophic results.
Quite frankly, if they'd left the smokers alone they wouldn't have had to hit the motorists so hard.

not just this government they all see this as an easy little earner.
let us not forget that the blues put vat on fuel, and it was ken clarke as chancellor many years ago, gleefully proclaiming a green tax when stuffing motorists.

But the Blues haven't been in power during this crisis Howard.
Just because something happened under a Conservative government 15, 20 or even 25 years ago, doesn't mean that Labour should keep it going.
Don't they have their own mind as to whether they should reduce the taxes on fuel when adverse conditions apply ?
