Painted Ladies are indeed around in their droves at the moment. I saw at least fifteen today, one in my garden, a couple in Cowgate and loads down Shakespeare beach. Here are a couple of pictures from today:
This dragonfly was a nice surprise. It is a male Broad-bodied Chaser, a widespread species across Southern England. There were three or four of these fairly large dragonflies skimming Connaught Park pond and engaging in aerial acrobatics this afternoon. A female was also visible, she was a golden-brown colour and much harder to spot. Here are a couple of photos, not great, but the best of the bunch.
