  just read on teletext that 2 british chaps in poland have been convicted of the above offence.
  
  apparently the incident occurred in the ancient market town of krakow.
  
  i am as broadminded as the next weirdo, but what does the offence actually comprise of?

  On Wikipedia Howard, it appears that the pigeon enthusiast takes the young pigeon on longer journeys, and releases it, to get it used to distance. Apparently, this is tossing the pigeon.
  Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

  Apparently on the news report it stated "According to local reports the stunned birds were not able to open their wings and fell to the ground, breaking their wings". They were both fined 600 zlotys (£130) each.

  such a pity that the poles did not have a justice system that kept them there,instead of leaving them to return to the uk.

  Very true Brian, although the demand for such good men have dwindled just a tad these days.

  They both are born fliers, I think PaulB would like to add pigeon tossing to his cv, as I'm sure he would like to remove a few of them off his balcony

  barryw-s,i am sure paulb can/could find a decent resapie for pigeon.maybe a pie,stew,casarol etc.
