You've got to feel sorry for the recruits, to get so close. With the number of recruits slumping over the years and now done to none, I just can't see how this won't affect the quality of policing - after all, these were front line jobs they were going into, not managment. Kent Police has been told to save £20m, and I expect this will be just the start with clerical staff hit next. With massive cuts planned from staff in Customs, Immigration, the NHS and so on, there is going to be an explosion in the next year or two in the numbers of highly qualified, dedicated and skilled people joining the ranks at the Job Centre, totally overqualified for the half-dozen driving and care assistant jobs available in the area. 'Dumbing down' on CVs will probably become the norm for job applications.

I've just checked the Civil Service jobs database - there just ten jobs available in the SE (and that includes Milton Keynes!), the nearest is Medway and many of them are high management level.

I'm not political at all, just very depressed about the lack of future.
