I've just received this from Kent Highways and thought it may be useful for people who use this part of Dover, in case there are alternatives - it's doesn't seem like it will take too long, but fore-warned is fore-armed.

Highway Improvements in Your Area - CARRIAGEWAY RESURFACING
    PRIORY ROAD, DOVER

What are we planning to do?
Kent Highway Services are due to carry out essential carriageway maintenance work on Priory Road, Dover.
This work involves the planing of the old surface and replacing with a new smoother,
quieter surface. All road markings will be replaced and a new anti-skid surface applied to the pelican crossing and the traffic signals approaches.

Where will the works take place?
Between Folkestone Road and the Ladywell traffic signals.

Why do we want to do this work?
This section of carriageway has been identified as falling below the intervention level on the latest condition survey. Undertaking these works will increase the life expectancy of the carriageway whilst providing a defect and maintenance free surface.

How will we carry out the work and how will it affect you?
Due to the width of the carriageway and the size of equipment, it will be necessary to close this road to all vehicular traffic with a diversion route being in place for the duration of the works. There will be traffic management operatives allowing limited access when safe to do so. A temporary suspension of the one-way system in Effingham Street and Effingham Crescent has been arranged to allow access to adjoining roads. Unfortunately, due to traffic volumes and disruption, works have been restricted to being carried out during the evening hours.
We will endeavour to complete these works as quickly as possible, whilst keeping disruption to a minimum. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the works, there will be an amount of inconvenience caused, for which we apologise in advance.

    Help us to help you:-
By informing our workforce on site of your requirements, many access/ egress issues can
be easily resolved. Alternatively, if you have any concerns, please contact the Kent Highway
    Services 24 hr helpline on 08458 247 800

Please respect our workers space and safety by driving carefully and slowly through the
roadworks; when permitted. Feedback from our workers shows that too many drivers go too
fast through roadworks. Our men and women work next to moving traffic and risk injury
every day. Everyone is entitled to a safe workplace.

When is the work to be undertaken and how long will it take?
The work will be undertaken from the 1st December to 2nd December 2009. This will commence after 8pm and be completed before 5am.
Please be aware that noise levels are greatly increased during these hours, although all pneumatic break-out will be completed by midnight, audible warning sirens and equipment noise will continue after this time.

    How to contact us?
