As part of Dover's regeneration, an alternative proposal as to the use of the Grand Shaft has been put forward by the Dover Organising Group: Community Regeneration Arts Project. A spokesman: "We believe that the conversion of the Grand Shaft into the world's largest Whac-a-Mole will bring numerous benefits to Dover".
The plan will include the construction of a 40ft cantilevered mallet in the Grand Shaft bowl and the installation of a giant pneumatic mole in the core of the Shaft.
"We believe that the Whac-a-Mole will encourage investment and become a major tourist attraction. We will take full precautions to ensure it is unobtrusive and fitting into the historic context. We might put a Napoleonic hat on the mole, or something" said the spokesman for DOGCRAP before he hung up, stating his wife had just brought some crumpets and he wanted to eat them for his tea.
