20:577636a report from the association of chief constables today advise the various forces to disregard sex in parks and public toilets, and only make an arrest as a last resort.
the argument being that the police are not the arbiters of public morals.
any views on this?

23:367648Translation anyone ?
Seriously I would rather the police target serious crime than "consensual" crime. True we don't want it on our doorstep. It is going to happen anyway and someone somewhere will keep looking until they find this "degrading behaviour" and tell us where they saw it. Why not just let live ?

04:537650I am with Vic here. We have indeed seen a terrible decline in public behaviour and morals. All idea of standards has been given up in the pursuit of political correctness. The media have played a role in this for the lowest common denominator, portraying poor behviour as normal and acceptable.
Dont get me wrong, I am not suggesting that we go to the other extreme, far from it, there is a middle way. I am no prude and certainly no saint, but there are limits to what should be considered acceptable.

I agree..I think we used to call sex in the loo..cottaging in the 60's.What adults do behind closed doors at home is fine but in public places,,O am afraid its a No No from me,
As for 24 hour drinking I only wish I had the money to do it..
.Its not the law thats wromg its the actions of a small minority that spoil it for the others.

19:277691I am with handyman on this one
Whilst this type of behaviour may well say a lot about public behaviour etc. it generally hurts no one and does little harm. The guidance to the police actually says that they need to act if it is blatant, though where there is some cover they should turn a blind eye.
We need our police to be dealing with things like the trouble Terry is facing not wasting time with someone shagging in the woods

22:347704the guidance was about parks and public bogs.
parks are only open in daylight hours when families are using it.
as for bogs, i have lost count of them being closed due to nefarious activities.
not round here, i hasten to add.

00:047712this is the bbc report
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lancashire/7674874.stm
reading this it is clear that it is a recommendation that has not yet been approved by ACPO
Yes the recommendations in the report talk about parks and toilets.
Toilets in this part of the world get closed 99 times out of 100 due to vandalism as opposed to them being used for cottaging

10:027731I am in full agreement with BarryW on this one, there is a time and place for every thing and the parks and public toilets are not the place.
I also think foul language in public should not be tolerated in certain places and at certain times. Some people just use foul language as part of their every day speech and do not care who is around them when they are using it.
Yes I can swear and do but I was brought up not in female company and not in public. If that is old fashioned now, then sorry it's time to bring back a few old fashioned morals.

11:017734When taking the family out I am far more disturbed by youngsters in large groups proclaiming in loud voices, "f*** yeah, it's a f****** nice f****** day", than I am by the though that there may be two people in a locked cubicle in the toilet having some form of sex. I do not want my children exposed to the constant cacophany of spitting swearing, throwing of junk and throwing up of too much illicitly acquired booze, every time we go out or are awaiting a bus. Far better the police concentrate on that sort of behaviour rather than worry about the few sad people that can't get their rocks off any other way (unless recording records and appearing in Eli Stone).
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

11:327736Hey Chris whats the matter with the Police dealing with both these areas of concern?
Surely they are able to multi task.
You have young kids so therefore you know how they always decide they need a widdle at the most inopportune moments.I would not send my 8yr old daughter into the public ladies loo by herself because of all of the above ie the swearing the spitting and the s****ing that goes on in the loo's.Wouldn't it be nice if the cops could stop it all and not forsake one for the sake of the other.
Sorry woke up and found I was still living in Dover..

01:157768unfortunately that is the problem. Having seen the police driving past collections of youths wrecking the new playground or disturbing people at bus stops in favour of finishing their patrols as quickly as possible it is all too apparent that they are incapable of multi tasking. Because of this I would rather they kept the streets clear and decent while I will ensure that my children are safe in the tiolets and if that means my clearing the gents so that my daughters can use the cubicles I will, and have, done so.
