Today,Sunday, along Dover seafront local publicans will be doing their bit for local charities by completing a sponsored walk. Its all good healthy fun and I believe there may be an odd beer tent along the route. So if you fancy a Sunday morning stroll pop along. It kicks off at 10am.

I have been involved in a discussion as to whom first came up with the idea of the Publicans Walk.I thought it was Charlie Willet of the White Horse but others thought it could be the Mogul. Does anyone have the definitive answer..please

I caught the tail end of this but didnt have a camera to hand sadly..there were some great costumes..the tin man, clowns, and so on and all very colourful. Would like to see this event grow. There was no publicity for it beforehand though, apart from Mareks bit on here. Well done Marek.

Guzzler and I took part in the publicans walks at least 22 years ago with the Three Links club, and both the girls were really small, they used to really enjoy the day out. Dressing up in fancy dress costumes and trying to do as many laps of the sea front as the adults did, then back to the Three Links for one of Joan's special drinks she used to make for them as a treat, It was only blackcurrant and lemonade, but she used to dress it up with a cocktail cherry and an umbrella for them. In those days practically every pub club and skittles team would turn out, and try and out do each other on the costumes there were hundreds of people. last time we went down to watch sadly there were only a few die hard's taking part, a sad reflection on what used to be quite a spectacle.

Gosh Humphy I didnt realise this event was more than 22 years old. I thought it was a new one with potential..oh dear! The idea is a great one but whether there are enough pubs and publicans anymore to make it big enough is open to question. It was clearly as you say great and much larger in the old days.
But its very good to see all the clowns and characters walking up and down and I would like to see the event expand...maybe to include everyone and all for charity too. Like I said the idea has a lot of very colourful potential.

Let us not forget the Cinque Ports ph, which has been an enthusiastic supporter of this event for many years and always contributes a large costumed throng to the festivities.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
