My stepdaughter Stevie attended at the reception in the Western Docks, on her first outing as a volunteer with St.Johns Ambulance. Hilary had arrived rather unexpectedly the previous night. A big marquee had been erected and Stevie turned up at 0700 in preparation whereupon she and her colleague helped put all the chairs out! All the booted and suited attendees arrived about 0830, including Gwyn, the family and the media. The reception lasted from about 0900 to 1200 with a lavish buffet.
Dover Mercury video below, Hilary comes across as articulate and personable and has certainly raised awareness as to what somebody so severely disabled can accomplish. A landmark achievement - and it started and ended in Dover!
