I have been made aware that the line from Dover to Folkestone will be closed for approx 6 weeks over the summer (July/August) in order to move the track in Shakespear Cliff Tunnel to accomodate a passenger escape route for the new High Speed Trains.
Becasue the new trains cannot be exited either end, like our existing services, the track needs to be moved approximately 1 ft to one side to create sufficient clearance in each tunnel to allow passengers to exit from the side doors and walk out of the tunnel.
What surprises me is that they relaid the track through the tunnels not that long ago to ensure there was adequate overhead clearance for the new trains, yet failed to reposition it at the same time.
