HOUSEHOLDERS THANKED AS RECYCLING EXPANSION BRINGS MASSIVE BOOST FOR ENVIRONMENT
Householders across the district are being thanked after the major expansion of the recycling service from Dover District Council led to a massive boost for the environment. More than 600 tonnes of recyclable material was collected in November as compared to 350 tonnes this time last year - which represents an increase of more than 70%.
The recycling service for the district was expanded from 3 November, with the extension of kerbside collections to include cardboard and plastic bottles. Blue bags and full details were distributed across the district. The green waste scheme for the collection of garden waste was also extended to include another 13,000 homes across the area.
To enable recycling collections to operate as efficiently as possible, there were some changes to collection days for refuse, black box and green waste. Household refuse collections remain weekly and recycling collections remain fortnightly. There has been a decrease in rubbish going to landfill of around 15% compared to this time last year.
If your box or bag is full, you can put additional items out for collection, but please make sure that these can be clearly identified as recycling. Householders are also reminded to put their refuse, recycling and green waste out on the kerbside for collection by 7am.
Cllr Nicholas Kenton, Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste and Planning said: "We are delighted at these fantastic figures and we thank householders across the district for the significant increase in take-up of our recycling service. We have been working hard to keep residents informed of changes, and to make the introduction of this exciting new scheme as effective as possible, and we thank everyone for working with us during the transition, as we continue to work together to recycle more and protect the environment for the future."

00:5610785Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
