What is wrong with the Vulcan I wonder?
I would like to see the Vulcan fly again. Memories of the '60s when they flew near to us, from Scampton airfield on outskirts of Lincoln. If you were driving on the road around Scampton airfield when one took off - oh boy - they didn't half rattle and vibrate your car. And the noise....
I knew one of the pilot officers who flew on the Vulcans, being the radio officer he sat 'at the back' and could see nothing. The men who flew in them didn't like them, and treated them with contempt, they never knew whether the '3 minute scrambles' were for real or practise. Used to fly over Labrador and the Brecon Beacons (terrain similar to parts of Russia?) in their manoeuvres. They flew low to avoid radar. Giants of the skies.
